This is a game from Round 1 of the 2007 Women's Saikyo. Yoshida Mika 8-dan (Black) lost by 3.5 to Mukai Kaori 1-dan, one of the three Mukai sisters who are already making waves. Apparently if you can transcribe games of this length (300 plus or minus a bit) within 90 minutes, you are at least 1-dan. Our own T Mark, who probably holds the world record for games transcribed and is strong 4-dan, does them in 25 minutes, which is surely quicker than any pro, although doing it with a mouse may be marginally quicker than using a real board, as the pros do.
John F, the other half of GoGoD, can do these games pretty fast, too - or at least well within the 1-dan limit - but there are a couple of important differences. One is that he tends to fall asleep after each one. The other is that the game as a whole remains a bit of a blur in that only the actual moves impinge. Even at high speed, T Mark understands what is going on, aware also of moves unmade.
Which brings up a point about the Japanese advice. They recommend re-transcribing each game a couple of times as a way of testing how much you've really absorbed.
1 ~ 100
If you're new to this, remember that it's usual to show subsequent diagrams starting with 1 (i.e. 1 below is really 101).
101 ~ 294
Target: under 90 minutes for 1-dan!
