The solution is a life of the type known as Dragon Eats Its Own Tail. White lives by making an encirclement long enough to join up into a single group with two eyes that look like false eyes. Two variations of the right answer are shown above. Below is an example of White's failure.

This problem also appears in a modern collection called Showa no Tsumego, Vol. 1. There are three volumes in all. They are a compilation of problems from Kidos throughout the Showa era, each by a different player. They are generally on the easy side, but show a fascinating range of styles (e.g. Kitani Minoru seems to like problems with a perhaps obvious right answer but where there can be lots of wrinkles in the wrong answers).
